Abby Lutaaya was raised a Muslim and lived briefly on the street before a friend introduced him to Jesus and he joined a brass band.
Lutaaya served in the band faithfully, and when the bandmaster departed, he rewarded him with a trumpet.
With a heart for the Lord and the lost kids on the streets, Lutaaya took his trumpet to the street corner where he played music to draw attention...not to himself but to the Lord. Kids responded, became Christians and a grandma offered her home which now shelters 16 boys.
Now Lutaaya leads 40 band members in a group named The Brigade, 16 of whom live in the home. They have gained local fame and earn money from performances which they use to pay for their food and a portion of their school fees.
Recently one of the boys, Lawrence Kintu, was struck by a car during a performance. While recovering in a hospital he proclaimed his hope to Uganda’s largest newspaper, The New Vision.: "I and my friends pray and read the Bible everyday on my bed. I am now feeling better than when I had just got the accident.” Lawrence says he has learned others are in more pain than him and also need prayer.
Lutaaya is a Rock university scholarship recipient in social work and begins Uganda Christian University this September. Will you tell others about Lutaaya and help?
