Put In A New Family

God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun scorched land. Psalms 68:6

On January 25th 1986 Timothy Sempijja (Tonny) was born to a single mom in Kampala, Uganda. His mother worked as a shopkeeper in her sister's shop until she was so sick she couldn’t work. Before her illness and later death of AIDS in 1994 Tonny and his younger sister attended school. A year later his sister died of AID contracted at birth leaving him in the hands of three aunties who tried to help.

He never knew his father or his father’s family and in African culture this translates to “I do not have a family,” explained Tonny. By 1998 all three aunties died of AIDS and he had to leave school.

Tonny describes life as hard for him and says "food was just a by the way until God broke a way for me into the boys brigade.” God opened a door for him to learn how to play different instruments but the greatest thing was the introduction to “a new family of God through attending bible classes at the Brigade.” A new life began in him as he learned about God’s love for him and used his musical talent to further his education.

A school needing a music instructor agreed to cover his educational fees in exchange for teaching their band students to play instruments. In addition to teaching and playing in the band Tonny is an accomplished wearable artisan. He creates jewelry in his spare time to earn a little pocket money. “Life has been good since I know how much God loves me.

Though I may meet challenges I’m in a new family and have a future.” Tonny desires to help victims of crimes find justice by working in the field of law. He has been accepted into Makerere Law Development Center for the Fall term of 2007 providing a Diploma in Law and has a few friends standing with him to help him achieve his dream.
