Forgiving

Daniel Mwangi (top left) could only watch as his neighbor was shot through with an arrow and died. Charles Kamau (bottom right), like Daniel, left everything behind to flee for his life with his family from post election Kenya violence which morphed into tribal warfare.

Recently, when Charles’ wife, Anne, phoned a friend near her former home, she was told others had been seen in the market wearing her clothes which had been looted from her home.

“It has been very, very difficult,” Daniel told Mark Noblin, Rock executive director, on a recent trip to Kenya. “But we have forgiven everyone.”

When Mark said that type of forgiveness could only come from the Holy Spirit within them, Charles replied, “That is what we learned in The Rock. We are to live for the Kingdom of God.”

Both Daniel and Charles had successful retail businesses assisted by The Rock in Kisumu Kenya which were destroyed by the violence. They have relocated and are attempting to start over. The Rock is seeking donations for no interest loans to help them and others rebuild. Even though a fragile political stability has been restored, 350,000 Kenyans remain in “Internally Displaced Persons” camps, fearful of returning home due to lingering tribal bitterness.

The Rock will be conducting “Doing Business God’s Way” training for 16 new Rock recruits in Kenya in late June and early July. Leadership and discipleship training is the focus of the training as well as basic business education.
